Bio Cremation, also known as alkaline hydrolysis, uses 95 percent water and 5 percent potassium hydroxide (KOH), an alkaline compound found in numerous health and beauty cosmetics, soft soaps and cleaning supplies commonly found in the home. The process replaces the use of flame with water and an alkali solution. Water, alkali, heat and pressure are gently circulated over the body, causing a reaction that begins and completes the Bio Cremation process. The sterile process prevents the release of emissions into the atmosphere and helps protect the earth's natural resources. Per University of California policy, the remaining sterile ash is scattered in the ocean.
